Summer EBT 2025: Will You Get $120 in Food Support This Year? See Where Benefits Are Headed

With school cafeterias closed for the season, summer can bring more than just rising temperatures; it can bring added pressure to put meals on the table.
That’s where Summer EBT, also known as SUN Bucks, steps in.

This program is back in 2025 to help cover the gap for families with children who normally receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year.
If you're eligible, you’ll receive $120 per child to help feed your family through the summer months.
How Does Summer EBT 2025 Work?
Here’s the breakdown:
-
Each eligible child will receive a total of $120 ($40 per month for June, July, and August).
-
These benefits can be used at any store that accepts EBT cards, just like SNAP benefits.
-
Funds can be spent on eligible groceries, including:
-
Fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, or canned)
-
Meat, poultry, fish
-
Dairy products
-
Bread, cereal, beans (dried or canned)
-
Snacks and soft drinks
-
Not allowed: Prepared meals, toiletries, cleaning supplies, diapers, or other non-food items.
When and How Will I Get the Deposit?
Most states will begin depositing Summer EBT benefits between late May and early June 2025.
How you receive the funds depends on your state:
-
On your current EBT card (if you already receive SNAP)
-
On the same Summer EBT card used in 2024
-
On a newly mailed Summer EBT card
Benefits are valid for 122 days from the issue date, and they’ll be used first if loaded onto the same card as your regular SNAP.

Final Thoughts
If you’re raising children on a tight budget, Summer EBT 2025 can be a real lifeline, especially with grocery costs remaining high.
If your state is on the participant list, keep an eye on your mailbox or EBT card balance starting in late May.
For updates and eligibility details, visit your state’s Department of Human Services or the USDA Summer EBT page.
