Beckley, WV - The Raleigh County Family Support Center and the Governor's Highway Safety Program teamed up this past weekend for an Easter Travel Car Seat Safety Check at the lower parking lot of the Beckley Walmart.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians were on-site to check car seats, ensuring they were properly secured and to provide travel safety information to parents. The technicians also ensured the fit of the car seat on the children was correct.

"With Easter and Spring Break coming up, getting your child's car seat checked should be on your Spring to-do list," said Ashley Davidson, the writer for WVNS News.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children in the United States. Child safety seats reduce the risk of death in car crashes by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The certified technicians at this event were available to offer guidance on how to choose the right car seat for your child, whether they’re infants, toddlers, or older children.

Parents and caregivers received tips on how to install their car seat correctly and ensure their child is strapped in properly on every trip. With a properly installed car seat, children will be better protected in the event of an accident.

The event was a part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program's Seat Check Saturday. Parents and caregivers can find out the location of events scheduled throughout the state via the agency's website.

The timing of this event is perfect, since Easter and spring break are just around the corner.

Many families drive long distances during these holidays, and ensuring that a child is safely secured can prevent devastating injuries or save a child’s life. Bringing your child's car seat to a certified technician for an inspection is an easy safety precaution to take before hitting the road.

In conclusion, parents should prioritize making sure their child's car seat is properly installed and fitted.

With the help of events like the Easter Travel Car Seat Safety Check offered by the Raleigh County Family Support Center and the Governor's Highway Safety Program, we can ensure our children's safety while on the road. Remember, a well-installed car seat is one less thing to worry about during holiday travel.
