New Minimum Wage Hike for 2025 Confirmed: What Workers Will Earn Starting September

With inflation climbing and living costs putting pressure on households, millions of workers across the U.S. are about to see a boost in their paychecks.

A scheduled minimum wage increase in September 2025 is part of a broader movement aimed at lifting standards of living and keeping up with the rising cost of essentials.

Approved through voter-backed legislation, this annual raise is designed to gradually increase base pay through 2026, helping workers catch up in an economy where the federal minimum wage has stayed frozen at $7.25 since 2009.

How Much Will Workers Earn in 2025?

Starting in late September 2025, hourly wages will rise again:

  • Standard employees:

    • Current (2024): $13.00/hour

    • New (2025): $14.00/hour

    • Target (2026): $15.00/hour

  • Tipped employees:

    • Current (2024): $9.98/hour

    • New (2025): $10.98/hour

    • Target (2026): $11.98/hour

This structured plan offers consistent, predictable wage growth to support workers in retail, hospitality, food service, and other hourly roles that have historically faced pay disparities.

Everyday expenses are through the roof. Tariffs don’t help either. Prices are up, but help’s still out there. Explore your options today!

What's Next After 2026?

In 2027, minimum wage increases will no longer be set manually. Instead, they’ll be tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI)—a mechanism that adjusts wages in line with inflation.

This ensures pay remains responsive to economic realities and protects long-term purchasing power.

Linking wages to the CPI is already being adopted in other parts of the U.S. and is recognized as a sustainable model for future wage growth.

A National Trend Toward Better Pay

Over 20 states have announced minimum wage hikes for 2025, including well-known hubs like Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Michigan, and Oregon.

These updates reflect a growing nationwide push to provide fair wages and reduce the gap between stagnant pay and rising prices.

For workers feeling the squeeze of rents, healthcare, groceries, and fuel, this wage momentum offers a hopeful step toward economic fairness.
