September 2026 Benefit Payments: Social Security, SSI and SNAP Dates by State

Millions of Americans will receive Social Security, SSI or SNAP benefits in September 2026. Social Security payment dates depend on a recipient’s birthday or benefit history, while SNAP deposits are scheduled by each state and can arrive anytime from September 1 through September 28.

For many households, these payments help cover essential monthly costs such as groceries, rent, utilities, medicine and transportation. Here is the full guide to September’s payment calendar, SNAP maximum benefits and what to do if your deposit is late.

Social Security and SSI payment schedule

The Social Security Administration payment calendar uses several September payment dates. SSI is normally paid on the first day of the month, while most Social Security retirement, survivor and SSDI benefits are paid on a Wednesday based on the recipient’s birthday.

September 2026 payment date Who receives the payment
Tuesday, September 1 Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients
Thursday, September 3 People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997, plus people who receive both SSI and Social Security
Wednesday, September 9 Social Security recipients born from the 1st through the 10th
Wednesday, September 16 Social Security recipients born from the 11th through the 20th
Wednesday, September 23 Social Security recipients born from the 21st through the 31st

For example, a person receiving SSDI who was born on September 18 would normally receive their September payment on Wednesday, September 16. A retiree born on the 25th would generally receive it on Wednesday, September 23.

The September 3 payment is not based on a birthday. It applies to people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and to people who receive both SSI and Social Security. Those dual-benefit recipients are scheduled to receive SSI on September 1 and their Social Security payment on September 3.

SSI Payment Dates: October–December 2026

SSI recipients will receive two deposits in both October and December 2026, but neither is an extra payment. The Social Security Administration sends the next month’s SSI benefit early whenever the first of that month falls on a weekend or federal holiday.

SSI payment date Benefit month it covers Why it is paid then
October 1, 2026 October Regular first-of-the-month payment
October 30, 2026 November November 1 falls on a Sunday
December 1, 2026 December Regular first-of-the-month payment
December 31, 2026 January 2027 January 1 is New Year’s Day, a federal holiday

There is no SSI payment in November because the November benefit is paid early on October 30. Likewise, the January 2027 SSI benefit is paid on December 31, 2026.

What this means for your budget

The October 30 deposit must last through November, since it is November’s regular SSI payment. The same applies to the December 31 payment, which is meant for January 2027.

These early deposits do not raise your SSI amount, create a bonus check or change your ongoing eligibility. They are simply calendar adjustments. You can verify your personal deposits through your my Social Security account or the official SSA payment calendar.

SNAP payment dates by state

SNAP benefits are sent to EBT cards by state agencies, not through a national payment calendar. Some states issue every household’s benefits on one date, while others use a payment window based on a case number, client ID, last name or another state-assigned factor.

September SNAP benefit amounts

For the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., Fiscal Year 2026 SNAP maximums apply through September 30. A household receives the full maximum only if its countable income is very low; many households receive a lower amount after income, household deductions and other eligibility rules are applied.

Household size Maximum monthly SNAP benefit
1 person $298
2 people $546
3 people $785
4 people $994
5 people $1,183
6 people $1,421
7 people $1,571
8 people $1,789
Each additional household member Add $218

Maximum benefit levels are different in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

SNAP calculations generally reduce the maximum allotment by about 30% of a household’s net income. For instance, if a four-person household has $1,000 in countable net income, its estimated SNAP benefit may be around $694 rather than the full $994 maximum. Your official benefit notice or state SNAP office provides the final amount.

If your payment is missing

For Social Security, SSI or SSDI, check with your bank or Direct Express account first. The Social Security Administration advises recipients to allow up to three additional mailing days before reporting a missing payment.

For SNAP, first check your EBT balance and online benefits account. Review any notices about recertification, missing documents, an income change or a change in household circumstances. If your payment is still missing after your expected state date, call the number on the back of your EBT card or contact your local SNAP office.
