These States Are Dropping Stimulus Payments in July—Check If You Qualify

While federal stimulus checks have ended, several states are rolling out direct aid in July 2025 to help residents manage rising costs and property taxes.

If you live in Alaska, New York, California, or other participating states, here’s what you need to know to see if a payment is coming your way.

Alaska: Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD)

  1. What it is: Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) is an annual payment to residents who have lived in the state for at least one year, funded by state oil revenues.
  2. Amount: $1,702 per eligible resident in 2025.
  3. Payment date: Typically deposited between September and October, but this year, early distribution is expected around mid-July for many residents.
  4. How to check: Log in to myPFD.alaska.gov to confirm eligibility and payment status.

New York: STAR Credit

  1. What it is: The School Tax Relief (STAR) Credit provides property tax relief for New York homeowners.
  2. Amount: Between $350 and $1,500, depending on your property and location, benefiting nearly 3 million New Yorkers.
  3. Payment date: Checks and deposits are sent in stages based on your county’s school tax deadlines, with many arriving between June and mid-July.
  4. How to check: Use the STAR Credit Delivery Schedule Tool from the New York Department of Taxation to track your payment.

California: Climate Stimulus Rebates

  1. What it is: California plans inflation and climate rebates to help offset rising living costs.
  2. Amount: Up to $725 per eligible resident under the current program.
  3. Payment date: Rolling distributions beginning in summer and continuing into fall 2025.
  4. How to check: Visit California’s Franchise Tax Board website for eligibility and payment updates.

Other States Sending Stimulus or Rebates

States like Georgia, Florida, and Massachusetts are also issuing tax rebates or additional benefits throughout 2025, often linked to property tax relief, inflation offsets, or local social programs.

Payment timelines vary by state, with many aligning distributions during summer and early fall.

How to Receive or Verify Your Stimulus Payment

  1. Alaska PFD: Confirm your eligibility and payment status at myPFD.alaska.gov. Look for “Eligible Not Paid” if your payment is pending.
  2. NY STAR: Track your payment using the NY STAR Delivery Schedule Tool. You can also enroll for direct deposit.
  3. California and Others: Check your state’s official refund or tax rebate site (for California, use the Franchise Tax Board). Many rebates require no application.

Bottom Line

  • Alaska will distribute PFD checks, likely as early as July.
  • New York will send STAR credit payments between June and mid-July.
  • California will begin climate rebate payments this summer.
  • Other states like Georgia, Florida, and Massachusetts will issue rebates throughout 2025.
